Frequently Asked Questions
What is The Captains Hub?
The Captains Hub is a captain-founded service that connects yacht owners with experienced captains and provides independent consultancy throughout the ownership journey — from pre-purchase inspections to long-term captain placements and global yacht deliveries.
Are you a recruitment agency or a consultancy?
We’re both — but with a difference.
Our roots are in yachting, not HR. We act as an independent advisory and placement service, helping owners find trusted captains while offering professional guidance on yacht operations, inspections, and deliveries.
Do you charge captains to join your network?
No — never.
Joining our captain network is completely free. We only work with qualified, vetted captains and reach out directly when suitable opportunities arise.
How does the placement process work?
Owners submit a request via our “Find a Captain” form.
We discuss your needs — yacht type, usage, experience level, personality fit, and any special requirements.
We shortlist vetted captains from our network and present the best matches.
Once you select a candidate, we assist with coordination, references, and handover if needed.
All contracts and employment terms are handled directly between owner and captain.
Our focus is on making the process fast, transparent, and based on genuine fit — not volume.
How do you charge for placements?
We charge a placement fee to the yacht owner or management company once a successful match is made.
The fee is typically 15–20% of the captain’s first annual salary (depending on the type of role and agreement).
For freelance, delivery, or short-term positions, we may apply a fixed or daily rate.
Consultancy and inspection services are billed separately on a project or hourly basis.
There are no hidden costs, and captains are never charged for joining or being represented.
Are you MLC-compliant?
We operate in accordance with MLC (Maritime Labour Convention) standards for ethical crew introductions.
As a UK-based business, we’re in the process of formal registration with the MCA to become an officially certified MLC-compliant placement service as we scale.
How do you vet captains?
Each captain is personally reviewed by our team — professional background, certificates, references, and experience are verified before being recommended to an owner.
As captains ourselves, we understand what makes a good match both technically and personally.
Do you only place captains?
At this stage, yes — our focus is on captain placements and related support services.
In future, we may expand to include senior crew roles such as engineers and first officers.
What consultancy services do you offer?
We provide independent support for yacht owners, including:
Pre-purchase inspections and sea trials
Owner’s representation during purchase or refit
Yacht delivery planning and captain placement
Charter and purchase advisory
Do you work with brokerage houses?
Yes — we collaborate with selected yacht brokerages, management companies, and service providers worldwide.
Our goal is to support owners and captains, not compete with established brokers.
I’m buying my first yacht — can you help?
Absolutely.
We assist first-time buyers with everything from captain recommendations to technical advice during inspections and sea trials — ensuring confident, informed decisions.
How can I contact you?
Simply reach out through our Contact Page or email connect@thecaptainshub.com — we’ll get back to you as soon as possible..
